The Frail Care Project was initiated by iWIN in July 2013 (Ramadaan 1434). It was recognised that due to the economic situation in the country, it had become increasingly difficult for most families especially the elderly to meet their basic needs.
iWIN selected just over 100 elderly people, who were the caretakers of their families and with the assistance of the Zimbabwean Muslim community and the Zimbabwean Zakaat Fund, iWIN began handing out a household support hamper on a monthly basis. The hamper provides basic necessities to manage their lives with dignity. This number has grown to 129.
Poultry & Horticulture
In line with our Vision, serving Humanity, iWIN has envisioned uplifting communities by setting up self-sufficiency projects. The Stapleford Poultry and Horticulture scheme is one such project where the aim is to assist the community in generating a source of income and help break the cycle of poverty.
iWIN empowered and trained unemployed women (mainly widows) with poultry rearing skills to create a source of sustainable income for them and their families. Eggs were successfully hatched and chicks sold under this project.
As payment took a long time, it was decided to change from this project to a broiler project where approximately every 2 months the chickens will be ready to sell for consumption.
iWIN further assisted the ladies in 2021 to set up two greenhouses, where they planted tomatoes to increase their source of income. With funding from Muslim Aid Australia, the greenhouses were replaced and one is producing tomatoes while the other red and yellow peppers. Harvest is expected in march 2024.
Kiosks
iWIN has undertaken a project to erect kiosks at various Masjid to assist the Imams to supplement their monthly income. iWIN has stocked the kiosks and will be assisting the Imams for an initial period of three months as they learn to manage their sales and maintain adequate stock, then they will allow them to continue with the self-sustaining project thereafter. The Islamic Welfare fund Zimbabwe, will continually assist in coordinating the production and set up of the Kiosks In Sha Allah. So far, kiosks have been set up and are now operational in Mvurwi, Buhera and Bedza districts in Manicaland.
Due to the economic difficulties, many people are unable to afford decent accommodation. iWIN assisted families living in shacks, with 2 roomed wooden cabins. The cost of building materials is prohibitive for the poor, thus these cabins have been the most affordable housing option, especially for those who do not own land.
Through our Education Fund, iWIN is providing Bursaries and Grants to disadvantaged Muslim Students to further their post A Level Studies at suitable local Universities and Institutions.
Potential Recipients submit their applications which include their A-Level results and financial needs and undergo further rigorous assessments before Bursaries/Grants are awarded to deserving Applicants.
Prescriptions
A small fund has been set up to assist selected underprivileged children at Parirenyatwa and Sally Mugabe Hospital with prescriptions when required.
Medical Equipment
As a service to the community, iWIN has set up a small storeroom with medical equipment which can be borrowed for home-based care. This includes items such as hospital beds, crutches, wheelchairs, commodes amongst other things.
Ramadan Food Hampers
iWIN facilitates the distribution of food hampers during Ramadan to local Muslim families.
Food distribution
When needed, iWIN has assisted with the organisation and distribution of food hampers in various localities throughout the year.
In December 2023, iWIN facilitated the distribution of 200 food hampers to the Arcadia and Stapleford communities on behalf of Muslim Aid Australia.
Covid Initiative
iWIN worked hand in hand with Hatcliffe Extension Charitable Trust (HECT) and the Muslim community to provide 4000 small food hampers during the pandemic.
Cyclone Idai
iWIN collaborated with and supported Miracle Missions and the greater Muslim Community to send relief to the affected areas.
Funds are distributed to needy individuals and families on a monthly basis as a means of support.
iWIN has helped distribute new and second hand clothing (and uniforms) to the needy.
During the month of Ramadan, iWIN adopts an orphanage (2 if possible) and takes on the responsibility of providing all food requirements for the month. At the end of the month, the kids are treated to an Eid party and provided with personalised gift hampers that include books, toys and new clothing.
As a non-profit organisation iWIN has had to host different fund raisers in order to support the running of their administration. This has been done in various formats such as, High Teas, Family Fun Days, Cake Sales and Golf Tournaments amongst other events.
